Our next spiritual discipline is service and I love the spiritual practice for us to do over the next days. “Do everything you do, especially the lowest and most menial of tasks, with an attitude that you are serving the Lord. Whenever possible, look for additional ways to serve or to lighten another’s burden. If you can perform your service without notice, all the better.”
I think the reason I like this so much is that it makes a sort of game out of serving. By nature, I’m not much of a servant. But the playful approach of doing everything as if I’m serving Jesus seems like something I can grow into these next 10 days.
I love how God has set up these practices to coincide with the times of the year. I’m not much into New Year’s Resolutions, but this seems like a great practice to playfully grow into as we end 2015 and begin 2016. Let me know how things are you going for you in the comments.

The great thing about this discipline is that with practice we can develop an “attitude of servitude”. It’s just like smiling…the more you do it the more natural and automatic it becomes. From picking up a piece of trash (not just yours) on the street to opening the door for someone to helping someone move furniture we glorify the Lord by putting our bodies and attitude to work for Him. We always have to remember that it’s not about “me” but about Him and showing others what our God is like.
