A Year with Jesus—Day 8—Forget You

So there’s this song from a few years back, where the refrain is “forget you”.  It’s an anthem from a guy who sees his ex-girlfriend driving around with another person, and is hurt by the whole situation.  His solution is to “forget her too”.

It’s a crass song at best, but it gets to the point of our devotion today.   How often do we say “forget you” to God?  Maybe we don’t sing (or say) that out loud, but our actions betray us.

I felt like I was punched in the gut when I read, “When life goes well, we forget God because we think we don’t need him.”

The author went on to write, “Offer this prayer as you reflect on those times in your life in which you have forgotten God:  Lord God, I am ashamed when I think of how quickly I take credit when things in my life are going well…”

I’d encourage you to check out the rest of the prayer on Day 8.

If you don’t have a copy of the book, here’s the link:

Unfortunately no electronic versions.   It has been kind of interested to go analog with this reading.

Lord God, help me never to forget you.   Thank you for never forgetting me, but forgetting your Son Jesus on the cross in my place.  [Add your own prayer thoughts…]
